Taking the 'Master Certificate in Reservoir Simulation' at Stanmore School of Business was a game-changer for my career in petroleum engineering. The course provided an in-depth look at advanced simulation techniques, including ECLIPSE and CMG software, which were directly applicable to my role at Chevron. I particularly appreciated the hands-on modules where we modeled real-world reservoir scenarios—like waterflooding optimization and gas condensate behavior—which gave me the confidence to tackle complex projects at work. The instructors were industry veterans who broke down intricate concepts into digestible lessons, and the course materials, including simulation datasets and step-by-step guides, were top-notch. Thanks to this program, I’ve been able to propose data-driven solutions that have improved our reservoir management strategies.
I enrolled in this course while working in Mexico’s oil industry, and it exceeded my expectations. The modules on black oil and compositional simulation were incredibly thorough, and I loved how the course balanced theory with practical exercises. One highlight was the project where we had to simulate a fractured carbonate reservoir—something I’d never encountered before—and it really sharpened my problem-solving skills. The resources, like the pre-loaded simulation files and video tutorials, were very well-organized, though I wish there were more case studies from Latin American fields. Still, the knowledge I gained helped me land a promotion at PEMEX, so I’m thrilled with the outcome.
As someone who transitioned from academia to the energy sector, this course was the perfect bridge. The ‘Master Certificate in Reservoir Simulation’ at Stanmore gave me a competitive edge by teaching me industry-standard tools like Petrel and Eclipse. The case study on shale gas reservoir simulation was particularly eye-opening—I had studied the theory in university, but applying it to a real-world scenario was a revelation. The instructors were approachable and provided excellent feedback on our projects. The course materials, including the comprehensive manuals and access to simulation software, were well worth the investment. I now feel fully prepared for my role at Wintershall Dea.
This course was a fantastic investment for my career in the Middle East’s oil and gas sector. The modules on dual-porosity models and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) simulations were spot-on for the challenges we face here in the UAE. I especially enjoyed the collaborative projects, where I got to work with peers from Saudi Aramco and ADNOC—it was a great networking opportunity. The course materials were high-quality, though I would’ve liked more focus on carbonate reservoirs, which are dominant in our region. That said, the skills I gained, like history matching and uncertainty analysis, have already made a difference in my reservoir management tasks at ADCO. Highly recommend it!
