The Master Certificate in Energy Commodity Trading from Stanmore School of Business exceeded my expectations in every way. As a professional looking to pivot into the energy sector, I needed a course that balanced theory with real-world application. The modules on futures trading, hedging strategies, and risk management gave me the practical tools I needed to start analyzing market trends like a pro. The case studies on WTI crude oil and natural gas trading were particularly valuable—I even used one as the foundation for a project at work, which impressed my team. The instructors were incredibly responsive, and the self-paced format allowed me to balance my job while studying. Highly recommend this course to anyone serious about energy trading!
I completed the Master Certificate in Energy Commodity Trading while working full-time in Paris, and I’m so glad I did. The course provided a solid foundation in energy markets, covering everything from price volatility drivers to the role of OPEC in global supply. What stood out were the interactive simulations—being able to practice trading on a mock platform gave me the confidence to understand how markets react to geopolitical events like sanctions or new renewable energy policies. The readings were also well-curated, with articles from Bloomberg Energy and IEA reports that kept the content current. If I had one critique, it would be that some quizzes felt a bit too basic, but overall, this course delivered excellent value for the price.
Wow, this course is a game-changer! As someone with a finance background but limited exposure to energy commodities, I was blown away by how much I learned in just a few months. The section on derivatives—especially forwards, swaps, and options—was incredibly detailed, with step-by-step breakdowns of how traders price these instruments. I particularly enjoyed the module on LNG (liquefied natural gas) trading, which is a growing market in Asia. The final project, where I had to create a trading strategy for a hypothetical energy portfolio, was both challenging and rewarding. The faculty at Stanmore are experts in the field, and their insights into the Indian energy market (like coal and renewable energy certificates) were spot-on. 10/10 would recommend!
The Master Certificate in Energy Commodity Trading was exactly what I needed to upskill in my role as an energy analyst in Johannesburg. The course’s focus on African energy markets—particularly coal and renewable energy trading—was a huge plus, as most resources I found online were too US/EU-centric. I gained hands-on experience with South Africa’s electricity trading platform (Eskom’s market) and learned how to interpret the Johannesburg Stock Exchange’s (JSE) commodity derivatives market. The video lectures were concise, and the downloadable PDFs made it easy to revisit complex topics like contango and backwardation. My only suggestion would be to include more case studies on emerging markets outside of South Africa, but overall, this course is fantastic for professionals in the African energy sector.
